This month I was nominated for a Liebster Blog Award! I owe a big thank you to the two blogs who were kind enough to nominate me: Hatm0nster, writing for the collaborative blog United We Game, and Nick at Deconstructing Video Games. The Liebster Award is given out by bloggers, to bloggers, as a fun way to introduce people to sites you like. =)
Here’s how the award works:
- Thank the individual who nominated you and answer the 11 questions they’ve posed.
- Nominate 11 other bloggers and give them 11 questions to answer.
Here are some of the questions that have been posed to me. I hope it’s okay that I mix and match the two sets of questions!
- Favorite game? Mass Effect 2, because it has great characters in an amazing world.
- Jedi or Sith? Jedi. Most because I like to embrace the dark side when I play RPGs like Star Wars: The Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic!
- Favorite game developer? BioWare! Besides Mass Effect, they developed Dragon Age: Origins, which is the video game that got me my start in gaming.
- Your greatest gaming feat or achievement? Beating Gears of War (Ultimate Edition) on Insane difficulty. That was extremely fun, since it’s one of my favorite games and I played it co-op. But on Insane it was just brutal. I still remember some of the hardest missions and how excruciating it could be to toil through them, restarting over and over and strategizing with my partner to make it to the end.
- Favorite song from a game? “M4 Part II” by Faunts. It plays during the end credits of the first Mass Effect game, and finishing that was a huge achievement and the start of a long love for the series. Now, I make it my victory song at the end of long workout runs.
- Star Wars or Star Trek? Star Trek! Just hearing a computer beep or a phaser makes me all giddy.
- James Bond or Jason Bourne? Jason Bourne.
- Favorite food? I used to say ice cream, but now I’d say a burrito. Since 2010, I’ve been either vegetarian or pescetarian, so with things like burgers being out of my diet, a burrito is like the ultimate delicious, super satisfying, protein-heavy meal.
- How did you come up with the name for your blog? I honestly don’t even remember. It’s a little bit gibberish, but I liked the heart symbol in there. I was trying to think of something robot-y but also fantasy. I started the blog thinking it was all I could come up with, and I would just “practice” blogging for a week or two until I came up with a better name. But since people started following the blog right away, I decided to keep it. I’ve come to really like the name, although its origins are still kind of fuzzy for me!
- Favorite thing about blogging? Being able to meet new people. I never thought it would be such a social experience. I guess I didn’t expect anybody to read my blog! But it’s been awesome meeting other gamers and geeks, discussing the things we’re passionate about.
- Favorite article you’ve written? I’m not entirely sure about this one, since my tastes change! Also, like all writers probably, I sometimes look back on old posts and think, Ugh, that’s no good! But one post I like because I’m so into storytelling in games: Agency and Storytelling in Video Games. =)

I may or may not get around to answering your questions. My love of well-organized lists and talking about myself clashes with my dislike for chain letter type things and my already substantial backlog of blog topics. But thanks for thinking of me either way.
I am not big on doing these for my blog, but I will gladly answer your questions here:
How did you get started blogging? Finished college and needed to keep writing.
What’s your favorite thing about blogging? Doing it. The community and expressing myself are great too, but I really just like the sheer act of writing something and putting it out there for all to see.
What’s your favorite hobby outside of blogging? Cooking.
Favorite movie? Amadeus.
Favorite video game? Too many to pick one.
Game you’ve never finished and why? The Witcher 3 because I hated how it played.
Star Wars or Star Trek (or both)? Neither, but Star Trek if I have too.
DC or Marvel (or both)? Marvel has the edge, but I like that DC seems to have a smaller cast of some of the most iconic characters ever in its universe. Marvel is too big.
What’s your greatest gaming accomplishment? Server firsts in World of Warcraft or third place in a Lego Harry Potter race (where I won an iPod Touch!)
What’s your current obsession (a TV show, a video game, a topic)? I am in between most everything at the moment.
Do you have any other social media accounts we can follow? Nothing that I’d use regularly.

Ooh Amadeus! That used to be my favorite movie as well. Haven’t seen it in awhile, but I don’t know that anything else has necessarily ousted it from its place at the top! I also have no idea why my response to this didn’t go through before. Thanks for answering these questions! :)

Aww! Thanks for nominating me! Since I haven’t been keeping up with too many newer blogs, I don’t think I’ll be able to nominate anyone for this award this time. However, I’ll totally answer your questions! :D
1. How did you get started blogging? At the time, I was working part-time until I was able to find a full time job utilizing my college degree in media. I needed a creative outlet since I wasn’t really in the right place to create stories back then. Since I had plenty of geeky hobbies keeping me busy and I was a new gamer, I thought it’d be fun to share my thoughts on the internet. That’s how my simpleek blog came about!
2. What’s your favorite thing about blogging? I definitely like the community aspect. I’ve made and met so many new friends I really didn’t expect to find or come to care about. The supportive and warm nature of the blogger community makes maintaining a blog really rewarding.
3. What’s your favorite hobby outside of blogging? Hard question! I think writing stories or reading would be much higher on my list of favorite things to do.
4. Favorite movie? Also really hard to answer! I guess if I had to pick one then The Breakfast Club.
5. Favorite video game? Mass Effect and Dragon Age series!
6. Game you’ve never finished and why? Final Fantasy 13. I got stuck on a minor boss fight and have not been able to figure out how to beat it since then.
7. Star Wars or Star Trek (or both)? I’m actually not the biggest fan of either, but I’d say Star Wars because I’ve watched more of that than Star Trek.

9. What’s your greatest gaming accomplishment? I think these days, I’ll have to say making it to the end of a game without getting stuck someplace or my schedule being an issue to finish a game.
